The victim, Ms Zubaida Nuhu
A postgraduate student of the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, Ms Zubaida Nuhu, has been found dead at Tamburawa river, Kano. It is suspected that the woman committed suicide.
Before her death, Ms Nuhu who was running a Masters programme at the Department of Water Resources Engineering and was about to start work in the same department as a graduate assistant, was found dead on Saturday, February 3.
Speaking to Premium Times, a sand excavator, Ibrahim Musa said the deceased arrived Tamburawa and asked for “the deepest part of the river.”
That was the last time anyone saw her alive. Her step-father, Tajuddeen Alhaji, said Nuhu left home on Saturday to withdraw money for a journey to Zaria.
“On that fateful Saturday around 11.00 a.m she told her mother she wanted go to withdraw money from ATM. Few minutes later, she sent her phone and purse to her mother. Her mother called me around 4.00 p.m that Zubaida left home to withdraw money since 11.00 a.m but hasn’t comeback. Immediately I notified police and local radio stations,” he said.
Mr. Tajuddeen said he later received a call notifying him of the discovery of a corpse of a female at Tamburawa river along Zaria road, Kano.

President Muhammadu Buhari has reinstated the suspended Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme, Usman Yusuf.

Prof. Usman Yusuf

President Muhammadu Buhari has recalled the Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme, Prof. Usman Yusuf, who was suspended by the Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole, on July 6, 2017, PUNCH has reported.

In a letter with reference number, ‘SH/COS/10/6/A/29’, signed by the Chief of Staff to the President, Abba Kyari, the President informed the minister of Yusuf’s recall, adding that he (Yusuf) had been “admonished to work harmoniously with the minister.”

The letter, it was learnt, was sent to the minister on Tuesday evening. When our correspondent called the minister to confirm the new development, Adewole only said, “Yes, what you have heard is true.” He refused to answer any further inquiries about the issue.

Sources at the federal Ministry of Health also confirmed Yusuf’s reinstatement. They did not, however, disclose when the NHIS boss would resume.

The letter made no mention of the probe Yusuf was facing at the EFCC.

Incidentally, Yusuf was being grilled by the men of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Tuesday when his letter of reinstatement was sent to the Federal Ministry of Health.

Yusuf, who is being probed by the EFCC and the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission, was accused of perpetrating fraud to the tune of N919m.

A committee set up by the minister had submitted a probe report to the President last September accusing Yusuf of abuse of office.

In the report which was compiled by senior officials of the health ministry, the Department of State Services and the ICPC, the panel described Yusuf as a public servant who“portrayed a holier than thou attitude but at the background, milked the agency dry” by conniving with others to perpetrate fraud to the tune of over N919m.

According to the panel, the N919m was dubiously given as payment to consultants for staff training.

The committee said as the head of the agency, Yusuf was personally responsible for all administrative, procurement and financial lapses.

According to the report, “His (Yusuf’s) deceitful attitude coupled with ‘name dropping’ of Mr. President as having sent him to sanitise the NHIS but he caused more harm than good to the scheme.”

The committee, therefore, recommended that the EFCC probe the agency for diversion of funds and contravention of the Procurement Act of 2007.

The report stated that Yusuf contravened the Procurement Act of 2007 through nepotism and other irregular award of contracts and should be sanctioned in line with the provision of the Act.

Explaining how the alleged staff training scam took place, the committee said in some instances, the number of trainees was far more than the entire number of employees at the agency while in some other instances, some employees were registered for the same training in two different states at the same time.

Most of the consultants were said to have charged about N250, 000 per participant.

The PUNCH had exclusively reported in December that Yusuf, who is close to the cabal in the Presidency, had been making moves to return to his post.

When our correspondent reached out to him to respond to the allegations levelled against him last December, Yusuf had said, “F*ck you, and f*ck the minister.”

Meanwhile, it was learnt that Yusuf was grilled for over 12 hours at the EFCC on Monday and Tuesday.

A source at the EFCC said, “The NHIS boss was with us all through Monday and returned on Tuesday for more questioning. His passport was also seized. He will return on another day for more questioning.”

Tania ready to raid criminals
A Nigerian policewoman has become an online sensation due to her beauty coupled with the kind of ‘risky’ job she does.
The pretty lady simply identified as Tania Dauda hails from Uvaha, Borno State, and is based in Abuja.

A woman has shocked peopled with her criminal act after disappearing with the children of her own landlady in an Ondo community.

Men of the Nigeria Police Force

According to Punch Metro, a female tenant has reportedly kidnapped the two children of her landlady, seven days after she packed into the house in Okedogbon, in the Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State.

The two victims were identified as Ayomide Olamilekan (six months old) and Blessing Olamilekan (two years old).

A source said the female tenant and a man, suspected to be her husband, rented a room apartment from the mother of the children, Mrs. Abimbola Olamilekan, and paid for six months’ rent.

The source said the woman did not have any information about the tenant until the time she absconded with her kids on Tuesday, January 30, 2018.

On the day, the source said the mother of the victims was washing clothes at the backyard when the tenant offered to assist in taking care of the children, who were disturbing their mother. She took the kids away and never returned.

Another source said only a bedsheet was found in the suspect’s room.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Femi Joseph, confirmed the incident, adding that the whereabouts of the kids was unknown.

He said, “When the mother of the victims was interviewed, she said she had no details of the tenant before giving her the apartment. This is wrong and careless. We will try our best to get the children freed and the woman and her accomplice arrested.”

Many supporters called for the Blues boss to be sacked after their 4-1 away defeat at Watford, just five days after losing 3-0 at home to Bournemouth
Antonio Conte
Antonio Conte’s days as Chelsea manager seem numbered after the Blues suffered yet another disappointing result, falling 4-1 to Watford on Monday evening.
Tiemoue Bakayoko’s early red card reduced Chelsea to 10 men after just half an hour and they never recovered from that setback. Troy Deeney put Watford ahead from the spot before half-time, and despite Eden Hazard pulling one back, Watford could not be stopped.
Daryl Janmaat, Gerard Deulofeu and Roberto Pereyra all found the net in the final 10 minutes to see Conte suffer a second big defeat in a row.
The loss means Chelsea now sit just one point above fifth-placed Tottenham Hotspur in the battle for a Champions League spot, though they are just one point back of third-place Liverpool.
Conte has been vocal about his desire to remain , but the club has yet to deny the rumours suggesting he is on the hot seat, and this performance is unlikely to lessen the heat on the former Juventus and Italy boss.
Supporters on Twitter were quick to voice their displeasure at the Blues boss, who has underperformed this season despite leading the side to the Premier League last year.
Chelsea are next in action against West Brom at Stamford Bridge on Feb.12. It remains to be seen if Conte will still be with them.
One of the prominent audit firms in the world has predicted doom for the local currency in exchange for the U.S dollar.
The naira may depreciate against the United States dollar at the Investors and Exporters Window to 386 from the current average of 360, PricewaterhouseCoopers has said.
In its economic outlook for 2018, which was released on Tuesday, the professional services firm said increased foreign exchange demand ahead of the 2019 general election might make the local unit to weaken.
The report read in part, “With the outlook on the oil price and level of reserves accretion ($40.6bn), we expect that the CBN would maintain the exchange rate peg of 305/dollar at the CBN window.
“In H2’18, we estimate a seven per cent exchange rate depreciation in the I&E window to 386/dollar, as FX demand increases and foreign investments slow ahead of the 2019 elections.
“Overall, the CBN maintains its multiple exchange rate regime, sustaining its intervention in the various FX markets.”
According to analysts at PwC, exports are likely to outpace imports on strong oil export revenues and shrinking import demand this year. The real Gross Domestic Product growth is expected to reach two per cent year-on-year on improvements in net exports and domestic demand
The professional services firm said investments would benefit from an improving investment climate. It, however, said that some of this growth would be offset by uncertainty usually associated with election cycles in Nigeria
On monetary policy projection, it said, “Moderating inflation, exchange rate stability and a fragile economic recovery provide room for a rate cut. We expect only one rate cut in 2018 which would likely be capped at 200bps. The need to keep rate differentials attractive means Open Market Operations issuances would become more

aggressive.

“To offset the impact of pre-election spending and currency volatility, we expect a 200bps increase in the MPR to 14 per cent at the September meeting.

Kassim Afegbua, the media adviser to ex-Nigerian leader, Ibrahim Babangida, who was declared wanted by the police, has sued for fundamental rights enforcement.

Mr. Afegbua is also requesting N1 billion in damages from the police, its spokesperson, Jimoh Moshood, and two media houses, according to court filings seen by Sources.

Mr. Afegbua’s legal representative, Kayode Ajulo, filed the suit at the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court Tuesday afternoon.

The reliefs sought include an immediate end to the alleged harassment being meted against him by the police.

Mr. Ajulo joined the National Television Authority and Channels Television in the lawsuit for airing claims that Mr. Afegbua was a wanted man.

Mr. Afegbua released the Sunday statement in which Mr. Babangida, a former head of state, complained about President Muhammadu Buhari’s shortcomings and advised Nigerians on the path to the future.

It’s always a struggle to grow hair out long and healthy, while still using heat on your hair. Sometimes it seems impossible to be able to put down the straightener and curling iron. If you are struggling to grow your hair out, listed below are a few ways to keep hair healthy while still using hot tools!

Steps

  1. 1

Drink at least 2 liters[1] (approximately 10 glasses) of water a day. Water keeps skin and hair hydrated. It also keeps bodies healthy! Drinking too much water will over-hydrate you.

  2. 2

Use a good conditioner. “Moisturizing” shampoo is important. Use a shampoo that works for your hair type, and rinse it out well.

    • When using conditioner, keep it 3–4 inches (7.6–10.2 cm) away from your roots. If you don’t your hair may come out looking a little greasy. No matter how long your conditioner bottle says to leave it on, always leave it on for three minutes for added moisture and shine.
  3. 3

Wash your hair regularly, but washing your hair too often can leave it without necessary oils; so wash your hair every 3rd day and when you get yourself in an unusually dirty/dusty activity. The scalp accumulates dirt, oil and dust which can cause the hair follicles to clog up. Regular washing is also beneficial to keeping that scalp clean and keeping the hair shaft clear.

    • Using specifically formulated products may also assist in increasing the rate of hair growth by feeding hair with essential proteins, amino acids, and nutrients to encourage long healthy and nice hair.
  4. 4

Always rinse hair products out of your hair with very cool water. It seals the cuticle and locks in moisture/oils, leaving your hair silky and smooth. If you rinse it with hot water that needed moisture and oil wash out, and you will notice that your hair is a lot frizzier, than if you rinse it with cool water.

  5. 5

Remember to use a heat protectant spray or lotion when using hot tools on your hair (curling irons, straighteners, dryers, crimpers, etc).It protects your hair from drying out, adds moisture, and helps prevent split ends.

  6. 6

Don’t brush your hair when it’s wet! Your hair isn’t as strong when it’s wet as it is when it’s dry. A brush will snag at your hair when wet, causing breakage and split ends. Finger comb your hair or spray in a detangler and comb it with a wide-tooth comb.

  7. 7

Take a daily multivitamin! Vitamins keep our skin, hair, and nails healthy. Also, if you don’t already take vitamins and you start taking them daily you may notice that your hair is growing a little faster.

  8. 8

Eat a lot of protein. It makes hair strong and healthy! Although the picture is showing bacon and eggs, plants and especially legumes have plenty of proteins, too. In the long run, this is probably the healthier choice anyway – for you, your hair and the planet.

  9. 9

Only get split ends trimmed off monthly.Remember that hair grows from the top of your head, not the ends. So if you want your hair to be healthy only cut split ends when you have to. Keep up with cutting only split ends – because if you don’t your splits will go higher and higher up your hair and then break. So your hair will be shorter.

  10. 10

Follow each of these steps carefully, and you will begin to notice, stronger, smoother, longer and healthier hair in no time! Let your hair grow out as far as you want it to!

  11. 11

Try the inversion method. Tip your head forward and between 4-5 minutes a day. Massage the scalp to create more blood flow through your head. Be careful not to put too much pressure on the scalp as it may make you feel dizzy, faint and may give you a headache. This method if used will grow your hair between 2-4 inches per week.[citation needed]

Community Q&A

  • Are all brushes good for your hair?

    Answered by Laura Martin

    • No. Boar bristle brushes are good for your hair. Synthetic bristles are fine for styling, but don’t have any benefits in terms of hair health.
  • How long will it take to grow to my waist?

    Answered by Laura Martin

    • It depends on what length you are starting from. Generally hair grows about 1/2 an inch per month, so if you measure the number of inches you are trying to grow and multiply by 2, that will give you a rough idea.
  • Can putting my hair in a ponytail damage it?

    Answered by wikiHow Contributor

    • Yes, but only if you make your ponytail too tight. Not only does it give you a headache but it risks breaking your hair. You will know if your ponytail is too tight if when you take it down, there will be a dent in your hair.
  • How about if you use coconut oil, will it help to grow too?

    Answered by wikiHow Contributor

    • Coconut oil is good for replenishing oils to the hair and making it healthier. Your hair will absorb the oil and its nutrients instead of just being coated with it. While this won’t really help to make it grow, it helps to keep your hair in better condition, which makes it easier to maintain longer hair.
  • Is there a food I can eat to help my hair grow?

    Answered by wikiHow Contributor

    • Eat healthily to have healthy hair. Eat foods rich in vitamins A, B, C, and E, and foods rich in zinc, copper, selenium, iron, and magnesium. Your hair will benefit, as will your body. Avoid fast foods.
  • Should I start from the bottom or the top when I brush my hair?

    Answered by wikiHow Contributor

    • Start brushing your hair from the bottom, then work your way up in small sections. Brushing your hair in this manner will help to detangle and it won’t be as painful when there is a big knot in your hair that you have to brush out.
  • My hair starts falling out after I cut my hair. Please help me

    Answered by wikiHow Contributor

    • Only cut your hair every 12 weeks. Use conditioning treatments and daily take vitamins such as biotin.
  • Can I dry my hair with a towel instead of a blow dryer, or will it make worse?

    Answered by wikiHow Contributor

    • It is best to avoid towel-drying your hair, as it can lead to frizz. If you must use a towel, try to pat or blot your hair dry; an old t-shirt or microfiber cloth would be much better. The best way to dry your hair is to let it air dry; even a hairdryer set to cool can be damaging.
  • How long does it take to get long hair?

    Answered by wikiHow Contributor

    • If you take good care of your hair, it can grow about half an inch (1.25 cm) a month. Some people’s hair grows faster than this, some slower.
  • What if my mother makes me wash my hair every day–-will this stop my hair from growing quickly?

    Answered by wikiHow Contributor

    • Washing your hair every day may be harmful, since you are not letting the natural oil of your hair come out. It may lead to breaking and drying of your hair. You can tell her these facts, show her articles on the website proving that, or let her go with you to consult hair expert or salon lady.

Tips

  • Put your hair in a bun when you are sleeping, don’t leave it down unless you have to.
  • Avoid keeping your hair in small, tight braids, such as micro braids. They leave your hair greasy and frizzy, and when you take them out you loose a lot of hair.
  • Use cold water while showering. It helps smooth the cuticles down, making hair stronger.
  • When shampooing, make sure to fully lather and give your scalp a massage to stimulate hair growth.
  • Keep loose hairstyles and don’t use rubber bands or metal hair slides. They rip your hair out with them.
  • Don’t put your hair up too tight, as this may cause your hair to break.
  • Sleeping with your hair up in a high bun, secured with a plastic clip, really helps your hair. You avoid lots of tangles and friction from the pillow! Remember that friction on your coat, sweater, pillow, etc. may damage your hair.
  • Put olive oil on your roots, and leave it there for about two hours. Then rinse. It will give you very healthy hair, and an olive oil cream hairdressing is a good choice, also always brush your hair out before you oil it or even just doing a quick wash. You can use olive oil to make your hair grow out super fast. Make sure you rinse it out good after leaving it in for 10 minutes or so.
  • Buy silk pillow cases. Cotton pillow cases not only make your hair frizzy but also absorb the moisture in your hair, leaving it dry. Silk pillow cases do the opposite.
  • Don’t do anything with your hair while it’s wet. Keep it down.
  • Use an anti-static comb or hairbrush. Wooden combs and boar bristle brushes are good because they do not strip your hair of natural oils. The boar bristles help distribute the natural oils on the hair strands when you brush your hair.
  • Drop the towel! Wrapping a towel around your head while doing your makeup may seem like a great idea, but all it does is make your hair frizzy.
  • For less hair damage, use heat protection spray. Or better, don’t blow dry your hair.
  • Hair ties pull out hair. Be sure to use a non-elastic cloth.
  • Be realistic about the process and don’t get frustrated. Your hair only grows 1/2 an inch a month at most; so don’t expect it to grow noticeably in a matter of a few days.
  • To brush long hair, first divide your hair into sections. Brush each section with a thick bristle brush. If you want you can wet the tip of your brush.
  • Have daily vitamins food such as fish oil or krill oil. It really works.
  • Biotin is an inexpensive vitamin that helps renew the hair follicle and grow healthier roots which when taken long term, makes your hair grow longer and healthier faster.
  • A loose braid before sleeping can help reduce the frizzing and tangling of your hair while sleeping.
  • Don’t wash your hair every day. It dries it out and makes it brittle. Always moisturize your hair; try moisturizing your hair at night and putting on a shower cap to lock in moisture.
  • Buy a wooden brush because it helps the natural oils from your hair spread all around.
  • Use the inversion method. Tip your head until it is upside-down. Then, all the blood will go down to your head and massage your scalp with circular motions for five minutes. This helps with the blood flow and makes hair grow faster. You can do this with just natural oils from your head or heated up olive oil, coconut oil, castor oil, etc.
  • Carrots, lettuce and cucumber all contain a vitamin called silica, which is essential for hair, skin and nail growth. Drink a juice blend of these three vegetables as a daily hair tonic. It tastes horrible, but you will love the results.
  • Avoid chemically coloring your hair, it will damage your hair. If you need to change your hair color, change it with natural lemon juice or any other.
  • Use the right kind of comb. Don’t use a brush when hair is wet; wet hair tends to be weaker than dry hair. The brush will only stretch out the hair and cause breakage.
  • Always drink lots of water – at least 1 to 2 1/2 liters a day or 7 cups of water a day.
  • Don’t rake through your hair when brushing it. Be gentle, it keeps your hair from breaking and being damaged.
  • Don’t use many different products because it stresses hair.
  • Brush your hair before going in the shower because then you are less likely to get big knots afterwards.

Warnings

  • Don’t over-hydrate yourself! You could start to feel very sick if you do.
  • Never leave hot tools plugged in and turned on when you’re not around.
  • Always take your vitamins on a full stomach. Many vitamins need to be taken with a little fat or else they won’t be absorbed by your body.
  • Don’t use other people’s hair tools, (brushes, combs, hair ties, etc). Lice isn’t a fun thing to catch! Straighteners and hair dryers are okay to use after a friend or close family!
  • Always use a heat protectant when you are straightening your hair.
