Scene of an accident
A pregnant woman and five others lost their lives, while two others sustained severe injuries, Tuesday night, when a granite-laden Volvo truck and a Nissan Bluebird car collided along Ajebo Road, Abeokuta, Ogun State.
Speaking on the incident, the Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps, TRACE, Babatunde Akinbiyi, said the Nissan Bluebird had number plates FD 638 EKY, while the Volvo truck had KJA 731 XP.
He said the casualties were all passengers in the Nissan Bluebird, including the driver.
Akinbiyi explained though the car was private, it was being used for commercial purposes, when the incident occurred.
On the cause of the accident, Akinbiyi said the driver of the truck drove recklessly and lost control in the process, forcing the vehicle to veer into the opposite lane before colliding with the oncoming Nissan Bluebird.
He said: “The Volvo truck was coming into Abeokuta, while the Nissan Bluebird was travelling outside the capital city to Mile 6.
“The truck driver caused the accident by driving recklessly. In the process, he lost control of the vehicle, and it crossed to the opposite lane and collided with the Nissan Bluebird, which was on its lane.
“Six people died in the car, including the driver and a pregnant woman. The victms were three males and three females. There are two children among them.”
He, however, said the driver of the truck took to his heels, after the incident.
Meanwhile, Akinbiyi said the injured passengers were receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Centre, Idi Aba, Abeokuta, while corpses of the six victims had been deposited at the mortuary of the state General Hospital, Ijaiye, also in the capital city.
Peter Okoye today on Inspiration 92.3fm spoke more about his feud with his brothers, Paul and Jude. Peter says he doesn’t hate anyone but it is just that they can’t do business (music) together again. He also said aside that, he is trying to make peace with them (his brothers) but they are not ready. While answering fans who called in, Peter said;
“It’s not about us singing together that really matters because that’s what you guys know. But think about it, this could be a blessing in disguise. I’m not trying to break the family or make anyone look bad. I don’t hate anybody and I’m not trying to make my brothers feel bad. I wish everybody the best.
“Everybody is doing well now, let’s just keep it that way. I came out to sing alone to show people I can sing because if I hadn’t done so people will keep thinking otherwise. My mother, if she was alive, would have said we should remain together but not do music (business) together. I’m doing my best to settle with my family but they (family) are not ready. However, for the business aspect, I’m done.”
