Hearts of about 26,000 students of out the 30,000 that applied for admission to study at the Nasarawa State University have been broken.
The management of Nasarawa State University, Keffi, said on Friday that it would not admit more than 4000 new students for the 2017/2018 academic session, even though 30,000 applied for admission.
Prof.Mohammed Mainoma, the Vice Chancellor of the University, made this known when the state House of Assembly Committee on Education, Science and Technology paid an oversight visit to the school.
Mainoma, who was represented by the institution’s Registrar, Alhaji Bala Ahmed, commended the assembly for its support in ensuring that the standard of education improved in the institution.
According to him, “on the number of requests by candidates seeking for admission arising from JAMB result released this year; over 30,000 candidates want to be admitted into this university.
“Unfortunately, our carrying capacity cannot absorb that number, as we do not have more than 4000 admission quota.
“This admission quota is not done by the university, but it is from the National Universities Commission (NUC) which determined admission quota of universities.
“This is based on the aggregation of facilities, infrastructure such as classrooms, quality of library and the quality of staffing.
“The university will be queried if we go beyond the admission quota, so we seek for your understanding, candidates and everybody’s understanding in this area.
“Certainly, not every candidate will get the admission, no matter how we try, “ he said.
The Vice Chancellor appreciated the efforts of Gov. Tanko Al-makura, TETFUND and donors for the provision of fund for infrastructure development, such as construction of road networks, lecture halls, training, students hostels, among others.
He restated the commitment of the institution to continue to key into good policies and programmes that have direct bearing on the lives of the students and the staff for improved standard of education.
Earlier, Mr.Muluku Agah (APC-Nassarawa Eggon East), the Vice Chairman of the committee who led the delegation, said that the aim of the visit was to assess the level of 2017 budget performance of the university.
He said it was also with the view of addressing any challenges discovered.

A corps member serving in Edo state has been beaten to coma by her employer’s brother in her PPA (Catholic Chess projects), because she asked him for the toilet key.
According to a story shared by @NigerianCorpers on Instagram, a female member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) identified as Busayo Ashephon, was allegedly beaten to coma by her employer’s brother known as Christopher in her PPA because she asked him for the toilet key.
The corps member who is serving in the Uromi area of Edo state, was allegedly beaten by her attacker to the extent that she was hospitalized and her L.I reportedly didn’t take it up, instead was allegedly offered wine and an envelope to seal their mouths.
The page wrote; “A corps member serving in Uromi, Edo state, Busayo Ashephon was beaten to coma by her employer’s brother (Christopher) in her PPA (Catholic Chess projects), because she asked him for the toilet key.
“He allegedly beat her to the extent that she was hospitalized and her LI reportedly didn’t take it up, instead was allegedly offered wine and an envelope to seal their mouths.”

Nigerians have been left in serious shock after a video surfaced showing a police officer threatening to execute two suspects in Lagos state.
A police officer attached to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad has been caught on camera threatening to kill two alleged suspects in Akute area of Lagos state. The boasted that he will kill the suspects and nothing will happen.
The sad incident occurred on Wednesday. According to the video shared by one Gallas Kolawole Oluwaseyi on social media, the SARS officer held the two suspected yahoo boys at gunpoint, ordered them to squat and threatened to execute them.
It’s unclear the offence the boys committed but the officer who was wielding an AK-47 rifle and dorning a black T-shirt with the words SARS boldly written on it, ordered the boys to keep quiet, shouting that he would Kill them and ‘nothing will happen’.
This is coming after a recent report rated Nigeria police as the worst in the world. On numerous occasions, the police have come under intense attack from the public who accuse officers of engaging in unprofessional conducts, bribery and extrajudicial killing of suspects.
Comedian Akpororo has called out Bobrisky during one of his many performance at a recent comedy show.
