University of Nigeria Nsukka Produces LION Laptop as CBN Promises Funding Innovations

Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele has urged Nigerian youths, especially students and young graduates to come up with innovative ideas that will transform them from job seekers to job creators, Daily Sun reports.
He also gave them the assurance that any such move would receive the full support of the apex bank.
He said there is already N220 billion CBN initiative to support micro, small and medium scale enterprises (MSMEs); and a Youth Empowerment Development Programme (YEDP), which runs with banks and the National Youth Service Corps to enable graduates with entrepreneural acumen to access concessionary financing of up to N5 million for innovative and job creating ventures.
Speaking in Nsukka Thursday as the Convocation lecturer for the University of Nigeria Nsukka’s (UNN) 47th Convocation, Emefiele said the unfriendly economic climate should not be sufficient reason for youths to be physically and mentally indolent; even as he charged them to reason and operate as leaders of tomorrow by converting their challenges to opportunities.
He said: “A quick historical scan of other nations, especially advanced ones, will reveal that notable strides in economic and political development occurred during the period of great challenges. In the United States for instance, it is on record that 16 out of the 30 corporations that currently constitute the Dow Jones Industry Average started during economic downturns.
“For example, Walt Disney Corporation was founded during the recession of 1923/24. Hewlett Packard Corporation began in 1938 during the end of the Great Depression and Microsoft was conceived during the 1975 recession.
“These entrepreneurs and innovators didn’t wait for their government to give them jobs; they created jobs for the economy. It may interest you to note that some of the wealthiest persons on earth are entrepreneurs who began with modest start-ups. Among them are Microsoft’s Bill Gates, Amazon’s Jeff Bezos, Apple’s Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak, Google’s Larry Page and others. They were creative and saw opportunities where others saw obstacles.
“I’m sure that some cynics may say that these people succeeded because they are in the society where things work and where the government does a lot for the people. But you must also note that having graduated from a federal university, the government has also subsidized your education when you compare what is paid in private universities,” he explained.
Emefiele also listed Nigerian entrepreneurs who succeeded from hard work and focus despite their little and challenging beginning to include: Aliko Dangote, Cosmas Maduka of Coscharis, Jason Njoku of iRoko TV, Obinna Ekezie who established wakanow.com and Iyinoluwa Aboyeji who at 26 has founded two globally successful companies and secured $24 million funding from Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook.
Also speaking at the end event, the Vice Chancellor of UNN, Prof Benjamin Ozumba disclosed that students of the school have started to produce laptops called “The Lion”, which he said will be mass produced and sold in the country once the right funding is received.
He suggested that the CBN used the UNN laptop assembly initiative as a model and pilot scheme for national computerization, digital promotion and facilitation intervention.
Ozumba further revealed that the University recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding with a US-based multinational for the uptake of agricultural products produced within the institution in line with its innovative agribusiness project.
“More so, the University has recently launched a tractorization scheme known as Higher Institution Tractorization Initiative which is targeted to be a national reference model where students will assemble, maintain and operate tractors with linkage to the communities to boost agriculture and food production in country. Nigeria is about the least tractorized country in the world today” , he said.
Unbelievable: Woman Who Aborted Her Own Baby Finds It Inside Her Stomach 15 Years After (Photo)
A woman who thought she had aborted her baby as many as fifteen years ago, has been shocked to find the foetus still inside her belly.
The woman, who did not want to identified, went on to suffer abdominal pain over the years and vomiting the last three
In what will come across as a really unusual development, some doctors in India were recently shocked to find a woman had been carrying a calcified foetus in her abdomen for the past 15 years.
According to a report by Daily Mail UK, the 52-year-old, who does not want to be named, terminated her pregnancy back then as her family allegedly did not approve of her having another child.
At the time, her obstetrician and gynaecologist treating her confirmed the baby was successfully aborted.
However, she went on to suffer abdominal pain over the years and visited several doctors, who only gave her painkillers and pills for acidity.
And for the last three years, she had been continually vomiting, raising alarm.
She then went to see a specialist who discovered the rare find – and has had a two-hour operation to remove the ‘fully grown stone baby’ as a medic described it.
Eventually, the woman, from a small village near Nagpur, in Maharashtra in the northern part of the country, met with a specialist.
Medics at Junankar Surgical Nursing Home, in Nagpur city, did a CAT scan and found an obstruction in her intestines, blocking the digestive system.
Dr Nilesh Junankar, a laparoscopic surgeon, said:
‘Her scan showed intestinal obstruction, a blockage in her food pipe along with a stone like structure.
‘Due to this unusual report, a laparoscopy was done and to our utter surprise, there was a four-month old baby in the abdomen. We were very shocked. It’s extremely rare.’
A team of two doctors decided to immediately operate and Dr Nilesh removed the dead baby in a two-hour operation on November 23.
Dr Nilesh explained: ‘It was a shock for everyone present in the operating theatre.
‘After opening the abdomen, a fully grown ‘stone baby’. However, her uterus, ovaries and fallopian tubes were totally normal.
‘The patient had stopped menstruating five years back and was not in a child bearing age.’
A stone baby, or Lithopedion as it is called in medical terms, is extremely rare. Only 300 such cases have been reported in the past 400 years worldwide.
‘Since no sonography was done, neither she nor the doctors thought the baby was still there,’ Dr Nilesh added.
‘The chance of abdominal pregnancy is one in 11,000 pregnancies and only between 1.5 to 1.8% of abdominal pregnancies develop into Lithopedia.
‘We have removed the stone baby from woman’s body and her four feet intestines have also been removed.’
The woman thanked the hospital for freeing her from a decade of pain and has since been discharged from the hospital.
Motor Boy Condemned to Die by Hanging After Doing This Shocking Thing to a Labourer
For daring to wreck irreparable damage to the life of labourer in a Lagos State community, a motor boy has been served with the ultimate punishment.

A motor boy, Kabiru Lasisi, was on Thursday sentenced to death by a Lagos High Court for killing a labourer, Abdulrazak Haruna, in October 2013.
According to The Nation, the convict stabbed Haruna fatally in the neck and watched him bled to death.
Justice Raliatu Adebiyi in her judgement found Lasisi guilty of a one count charge of murder and sentenced him to death.
The state prosecutor, Mrs. O.A. Olugasa, told the court that Lasisi accompanied his boss, one Kehinde Kuye, a bus driver to a company, Twins Fajah Nigeria Limited located in Ajah to deliver cement to a customer when the incident took place.
According to her, the deceased confronted the convict for obstructing the labourers offloading cement with his vehicle and an argument ensued between the duo.
The prosecutor said: “During the argument, Lasisi, in Yoruba language, threatened to kill the deceased.
“While other labourers were trying to separate them, Lasisi who was armed with a small knife stabbed the deceased on the right side of the neck, leaving a deep cut from which blood was gushing out.
“The deceased died before getting to the hospital.
“Lasisi tried to flee from the scene but was apprehended by an angry mob of labourers who almost lynched him.
“He was saved by the manager of the company who tied him up in his office before the police arrived.”
Lasisi claimed that he did not stab the deceased, adding that the deceased was injured by an iron rod at the back of the truck.
The prosecutor called four witnesses and tendered the weapon used in committing the crime – a small knife which was still caked in dried blood – as evidence.
Lasisi, through his counsel, Mrs. Y.A Ajayi, from the Office of the Public Defender, pleaded with the court to temper justice with mercy.
Ajayi said the convict is a first time offender who is deeply remorseful about his actions.
“My Lord the defendant is a first time offender who is remorseful about his actions. He is a young man who can still be of benefit to the society. During the cause of the trial he lost his parents,” she said.
Justice Adebiyi, however, said she found no merit in Lasisi’s plea for mercy and sentenced him to death.
“The evidence against the defendant is overwhelming as the victim died from the stab wounds.
“The defendant knew what he was doing when he brought out a knife, knowing fully well that it can cause grievous body harm. His utterance, ‘I will kill you’ also showed that he knew what he was doing.
“The defendant, Kabiru Lasisi is hereby sentenced to death. May God have mercy on your soul,“ the judge ruled
